Monitors: What You Need to Know

Monitors can be an expensive part of your PC setup. Since it is the window to the digital realm, most people want a large one. Players for instance spend thousands to buy the biggest monitors available on the market. Others buy smaller, cheaper monitors and connect them all for one PC. But how will you know what is right for you?

Screen Size Matters

One thing to know about monitors is that the screen size dictates the price. The difference between a few inches can mean tens of dollars. The larger it goes however, that price shifts considerably. For those who want a simple monitor for work, a standard one works just fine. Players too, for that matter, can enjoy the game without having to spend thousands on curved monitors and widescreens. Multiple monitors also require a powerful graphics card. If you are considering getting them, make sure the rest of the setup is up to standards.

Compatibility Matters

While it may seem that purchasing a monitor is pretty straightforward, you still need to do a bit of research. For instance, the graphics card needs to be compatible with the wiring in order to plug it in. Most monitors have VGA ports compatible with a PC’s motherboard; newer graphics cards no longer have them. Most modern graphics cards sport HDMI slots, meaning older monitors would not be compatible. Some cards also require DVI cables or even an adapter.

Final Words

Without a proper working monitor, your PC is useless. You would not be able to do anything since you cannot see. Maintaining your monitor properly, dusting them, and ensuring the wires are not tangled go a long way. Monitors can live for half a decade or more with proper use. Of course, make sure that they are not bumped or moved a lot. Monitors are very delicate, and a single bump or dent can ruin the whole thing.
